CHAINLESS DRIVE on the baler means that all knotters and packers are driven by torsionally rigid shafts and gears, guaranteeing perfect timing for the life of the baler. This also increases reliability, whilst minimising the maintenance work required during the hectic in season rush.
EFFICIENT PACKER FEED consisting of two (three on the AP830) self deflecting packers which automatically clear blockages posed by foreign objects. The ability of the blades to self deflect also prevents shear bolts being broken, reducing down time in the field.
AUTOMATIC NEEDLE DRIVE ensures that in normal operation of the baler, the synchronised timing process is accurate. This also removes the needles from the chamber should the machine need to be reversed.
COMPACT KNOTTER including maintenance free bearings, have been developed through Lely's experience of creating over 100,000 balers.
OVERLOAD PROTECTION using two clutches, one either side of the flywheel to protect both the tractor and baler should a blockage occur.
PICKUP using strong, maintenance free ball bearings as tine bars, ensures a longer life time with less stoppages in the field.

Bale delivery to field
Lely Welger AP balers can be ordered with any of the following bale delivery methods:
- Dropped straight onto the field
- Delivered to a following trailer on a foldable bale chute, where the bales can then be hand stacked
- Chucked into a following trailer through a P23 bale thrower, please see image below for more details
